Transparent methodology

Every number should be explainable.

Deal Finder compares the cost of an eBay listing with a sourced raw-card reference. That comparison is a research starting point, not a guaranteed saving or a US sold-price estimate.

Card identity

Cards are matched by set, collector number and card name. Printing variants such as Normal, Holofoil and named reverse patterns remain separate. Digital-only Pokémon TCG Pocket cards are excluded from the physical-card market.

Raw-card references

Raw values come from TCGplayer market data distributed through TCGCSV. The US site uses original USD source values directly, without currency conversion. Prices are matched to catalogue cards and printings; unmatched or ambiguous records remain unvalued. These are source-market references, not US sold prices. They do not include shipping or adjust to the condition of an individual copy.

How deals are ranked

US listing comparisons use the item price plus known domestic shipping, before applicable sales tax. eBay calculates any sales tax at checkout for the delivery address.

Buyer cost is the listing price plus known US shipping. The percentage below reference is calculated as (reference price − buyer cost) ÷ reference price × 100. Best-deal order puts the largest eligible percentage gaps first. The comparison uses a current compatible raw reference, choosing the lowest eligible standard raw printing value rather than a graded or premium-variant price. A listing without a usable reference cannot claim a percentage saving.

Ranks apply across the available listings before search and condition filters. Pro unlocks ranks #1–#100; free listings start at #101. Filtering narrows the results without renumbering their overall ranks.

Condition and listing checks

The scanner searches US-located, English-language raw single cards on eBay US. Auctions are excluded. Matching checks card identity and screens for accessories, bundles, proxies, graded cards and other mismatches. Apparent discounts of 80% or more are excluded as a precaution against misleading matches.

Condition filters use the seller’s description. The reference benchmark assumes Near Mint, so a played card’s percentage gap is not a like-for-like saving. Automated checks cannot authenticate a card or replace inspecting its photos, finish, language and seller details.

Updates and availability

Background updates run automatically. Reference prices refresh when the daily source feed publishes new data. Leading listings receive priority availability checks, while other listings rotate through background checks. Listing clicks are checked before redirecting, with a short cache. A card can still sell between checks; eBay confirms the final price and availability.

Price history

Card pages show raw-price history with separate lines for available printings. Snapshots are saved as source prices update and retained for longer-term history. Where no new price is recorded, the chart carries the last known value forward for display. New printings need enough history before a weekly change can be shown.

PSA searches and sold prices

Card pages offer separate PSA 9 and PSA 10 eBay searches. These are marketplace searches, not on-site graded valuations. We do not estimate graded values by multiplying a raw price. Verified comparable-sales estimates are not currently available on SeekerDex.
